1500 Books Donated to Kids in the Bay Area

In the spirit of supporting AAPI communities this month, 1,500 copies of Gloo Books' first children's book, What's That?, are being donated to kids in low-income communities in the Bay Area. Thanks to the good folks at Noggin and the Silicon Valley Community Foundation which purchased and donated 1,500 copies of the book to childhood literacy organizations, Raising A Reader and the Big Lift. We are floored at the generosity and can't believe how many kids will not only be able to read the book but have a copy of it at home.

Why did you start a publishing company? I get asked this question often. The short answer is writing a children’s book was not enough. When it comes to representation, we often talk about what’s in the book— who is in the book and how are they portrayed. Gloo Books has acquired world rights to A Very Asian Guide to Korean Food, a picture book exploring the delicious world of Korean food. Written by award-winning, veteran journalist Michelle Li and illustrated by Sunnu Rebecca Choi, this will be the first book in a series called A Very Asian Guide that introduces young readers to different Asian cuisines.
